The Nine Worthies are nine historical, scriptural, and legendary personages who personify the ideals of chivalry established in the Middle Ages, penned by Jacques de Longuyon in his book “The Vows of the Peacock”. Deemed a valuable study for aspirants to chivalric status, the list is divided into three distinct groups, Pagans, Jews, and Christians.
This collectible features Joshua as the first from the Jews group. Joshua was the leader of the Israelites after the death of Moses and is considered the idealized general who led the Israelites to conquer the Promised Land. It was when Joshua was sent as one of the Twelve Spies of Isreal sent by Moses to explore the land of Canaan, that Joshua is attributed to the chivalric virtue of truth.
The 2 oz fine-silver coin is struck in a new minting technique called “Bi-Metal Max”, that combines 11.5 oz of copper as a base for the top layer of fine-silver, resulting in super ultra-high relief while being complemented with antiqued silver finishing. The technique allows the coin to have an incredible weight and feel in the hand together with its 80 mm diameter size.
The collectible showcases the portrait of the hero in his armor and the elements from the theme which features various ornaments that symbolize the character’s chivalric values and beliefs. The same ornaments and details can be found on the obverse surrounding the legal tender, the Coat of Arms du Tchad.
