Theme
The Nine Worthies are nine historical, scriptural and legendary personages who personify the ideals of chivalry established in the Middle Ages, penned by Jacques de Longuyon in his book “The Vows of the Peacock”. Deemed a valuable study for aspirants to chivalric status, the list is divided into three distinct groups, Pagans, Jews, and Christians. Starting the series is Hector of Troy from the Pagans group. The Champion of Troy, a Prince of the mighty city and a man who fell honorably to Achilles. Hector was known for his great love and showed great noble and courtly behavior when he faced his foes.
Design
The 2 oz fine-silver coin is strucked in a new minting technique that combines 11.5 oz of copper in between two layers of fine-silver resulting in super ultra high relief while being topped off with silver antique finishing. The design on the reverse feature the portrait of the hero in his gear and the elements from the theme which showcases various ornaments that symbolizes the character’s chilvaric values and beliefs. The same ornaments can be found on the obverse surrounding the legal tender.
Certificate
The collectible is certified with a Certificate of Authenticity, made from 999 Ag , in 0.1 oz. Every certificate is serialised and of Legal Tender with the value of 25 cents in the country of Niue and is tied to each individual coin attesting to the authenticity of the collectible coin.
