The Nine Tailed Fox
1 oz 999 Fine Silver Coin – Republique du Tchad 2023 – 5000 Francs CFA
Foxes are very central to many Japanese folklore tales. The fox has the ability to shapeshift into human form. Foxes employ the use of trickery in some tales, while in others, they might appear as friends, guardians, or lovers. In ancient Japan, it is said that foxes and humans lived together in peace and harmony. Kitsune are also thought to be linked with Inari or Shinto Kami. They are animals of the spirit, and they have supernatural significance in Japanese culture to this day. The fox carries many of the same connotations in Chinese culture as well, being a shapeshifter or a trickster and also of supernatural origin. During later periods of the Tang dynasty, fox spirits were actually worshipped, and foxes were allowed to share people’s food and drink. The transition from mystical storytelling to real-life worship happened slowly over time. The Tang dynasty had a figure of speech that became common during their reign, “Where there is no fox demon, no village can be established.”
Through the use of a new minting technique called “Bi-Metal Reverse”, it achieves a remarkable weight and 60mm diameter size – making it double the size of a regular 1 oz collectible. By combining 1 oz of 999 pure silver as a base with a top layer of 4.5 oz of copper, the result is a super ultra-high relief that brings out every detail to maximum effect, then finished with antiqued silver and vibrant colorings applied to the Nine Tailed fox in vibrant colors. This is a limited edition of 688 pieces only. Each piece is packaged and delivered with a Certificate verifying its edition number and authenticity.
