Featuring characters from arguably the most popular work in Chinese literary, mythology and culture across East Asia, the Journey to the West. It tells the story of Tang Sanzhang 唐三藏 and his three disciples, Sun Wukong 孙悟空, Zhu Bajie 猪八戒, Sha Wujing 沙悟净, and a dragon prince, which acts as Sanzhang’s white horse, journeying towards enlightenment by the power and virtue of cooperation. As one of the Four Great Classic Novels (四大名著), it is one of the most read, studied and adapted forms of Chinese literature. Deeply rooted in Taoist and Buddhist philosophy as well as Chinese folklore and mythology, Journey to the West continues to influence Chinese culture today with its teachings. The Gods and deities within the novel are legendary household names that are worshipped and looked upon for their virtuous and respectable conduct depicted throughout the novel.
